Blue Sky Value refers to an intangible value of the automobile dealership over and above the net asset value of the businesses. The blue sky value is measured as a multiple of pre-tax earnings which is referred to as a blue sky multiple. In the United States, the sources of the blue sky multiples include firms such as Haig Partners and Kerrigan Advisors which publish blue sky multiples of vehicle brands and franchises quarterly from a large number of current transaction data. The multiples for the vehicle brands and franchises are not static but fluctuate year-to- year. To estimate the blue sky value of an auto dealership, business valuators multiply by pre-tax earnings by the blue sky multiple. To estimate the fair market value of an automobile dealership, business valuators add the blue sky value to the value of net assets computed from the adjusted balance sheet.
