Control adjustment refers to the valuation adjustment analysts make to financial statements to reflect the effect of a controlling interest in a business. An example of a control adjustment is the adjustment made to an owner’s compensation which is above the prevailing market compensation. Such adjustment is necessarily applied by business valuation analysts to “normalise” the financial statements towards the estimation of the fair market value of the business entity.
